I came across 3 paintings done in 'Aboriginal Style' being made and sold by a fellow from England. I've just sent him a message as the motifs used are blatently copied from North East Arnhem Land clan renderings and I'm aware that this is frowned upon in Yolngu culture and that similar actions have led to lawsuits etc.
UPDATE - I've now heard back from the vendor who has removed the items from sale. These were from 'a friend' and were possibly created a by an Aboriginal artist although the medium and rendering are not conventional and they look more like copied work to my eye. I'll let you know if these are attributed to any known artist if indeed I find out.

I think it is all OK to make your own didgeridoo and paint it too - but do it in your own style, and for your own use - and don't make copies and try to sell them as real instruments - it is bad style! Let the Aboriginals make and sell the real yidaki and mago - it is the best instruments anyway - and much better then you can do it you self, thats just what I think!
