When I worked on the American Indian reservations, we had some classes to learn about their contemporary culture. For instance, it was considered impolite to make eye contact with an elder. Certain topics were taboo. You addressed elderly females as "grandmother."

I will be visiting some Australia Aboriginal areas and am looking for information about contemporary culture. I understand that it is important to learn about past history as well, but there are plenty of references for that information. I am looking for practical information about day-to-day interactions in 21st Century Aboriginal areas.

Thanks

Have a look at the Dhimurru website here: http://www.dhimurru.com.au/culture.html

Obviously, this caters to visitors to North East Arnhem Land in particular, but is a good starting point.
