Hi people,

I was wondering if anybody on the forum has read the book Aboriginal Art, by Wally Caruana published byThames& Hudson. Would you suggest the book and why?

Cheers,

Mahir,

Yes, it's a good reference book to have which covers the whole range of Aboriginal Art from rock carvings, engravings and paintings through to modern Urban Aboriginal Art with a focus on bark paintings and Desert art on canvas.

Definitely worth having if you're interested in the subject as it's concise and easy to read.

hi there,

haven't read the book, but I'd just say that when talking about art, whatever that comes from him is worthwhile reading, as it happens with Howard Morphy, and a few more, but specially with these two... one might disagree, fair enough, but it's important to know what these people think and do...

cheers,
m

Tis a good book, still in publication and therefore not expensive, Wally Caruana is one of the leading authorities on Aboriginal Art for sure and a good bloke too. Recommended for an overview of Indigenous art practice in Australia which also gives enough detail on specific art movements and styles.

Welcome and hope you enjoy it here!

Do you work at Dacou and is Fred still there? If you're representing the gallery, its an honour to have you here, most of us on the forum don't know much about Aboriginal art though Kyle stands out with his enviable experience and background.

I know Wally personally, great book, ultra-nice guy, immense knowledge, fantastic writer.

Looking forward to more posts from you!

Guan
