Hi, I'm Adam, from Sydney (Penrith), Australia. I'm 33 and new to the Didge. I used to play the guitar, and enjoy Aussie rock, which led me to Warumpi band, which led me to a sudden interest in Australian culture, and the Didgeridoo. I love it's simplicity, and primal character. I also have always been drawn to drone instruments, like Sitar, and Bagpipes, and now am finally playing a drone instrument myself. So now that I have spent a couple of weeks with the instrument, I seem to be taking a shine to the traditional way of playing, particularly the NEAL tradition..... which, by the way, I don't really fully understand what NEAL is, all I know is that I like hearing that style best of all. I have a basic, natural finish, D# eucalyptus termite piece, which is not bad for learning, but I hope to purchase the real thing in the very near future. You can certainly hear the difference from a mile away. The genuine Didges have a beautiful, dry, woody sound, that sound to my ears, like the sound of Australia. Other Didges, that are not genuine, don't sound the same. They are more buzzy, and unnatural, and sound more like they have been massed produced in a factory. It seems like comparing freshly caught lobster to McDonalds.... there's just no comparison. So yeah, I've already got my eyes on a couple of Didges on the iDIDJ website. Unfortunately, I can't really afford to go up to the $1000 mark, but there are still some very, very nice sticks for under $1000. I hope to learn and play as much as I can, and I look forward to growing on the instrument, and hearing from others who loved the Didgeridoo as well. Take care, Adam.

Hi, Adam! There are lots of folks on here who know much more about didge than I do, but I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Interesting the comparison between didge and bagpipes, because as I commented on here a short while back, I was watching a youtube of didjeridu a couple weeks ago when suddenly a group of bagpipers started up outside my window, and it was a most curious combination... both sort of otherworldly, and yeah, as you say, drone instruments. Interesting... Anyhow, hopefully the didge experts will jump in here, but meanwhile, glad to have you on the forum! Cindy

I come from the LAND of lobster!! Good stuff, and a healthy fishery in these parts! You steam 'em under wet seaweed with little bait-bags full of clams, corn in the husk, and taters. Mmmmmmm.... Cindy - in MAINE
