Want to say hello to all the didgieplayers out there and introduce myself a bit.

Image

I'm Jo from Berlin and the didgeridoo found me at 4.4.2006 10:00 :D o'clock ... a date I never will forget.

Next to my door was born the Didge'N'Culture association which I have part on since it's born. I was so fascinated to hear the sound of Marc Manu's (founder of Didge'N'Culture) playing in front of the Didge'N'Culture location in Berlin, that I makes me dream of mixing sounds like Underworld is creating with that natural instrument. I become so fascinated from that organic trance music - and step by step it becomes an lifelong love.

At this forum I registered, because I am always hungry for authentic informations crossover genres.

At this Didge'N'Culture project I got involved at it's beginning as I said - I spent almost a year with crafting didgies . But I decided to become focused for playing, not for crafting.
I had a handful workshops from Si Mullumby, Tom Fronza and Mark Atkins till 2007. Up to that I realized I truly had to find my own calling trough the didgie - to make it an healing and authentic heartbeat for me - and I still do! There is no other way for me!

2007 I bought an custom carved high end + really high preasured didgeridoo key F from Eddy Halat * which I was'nt able to play for more that 30 seconds hihi .. but I already know it, as I ordered it. I become so closed to that, that the daily routine with that for me special instrument changed my playing totaly and from the basics. It changed my body cause I am so focused for the physically influence of it - it changed my mind cause it is giving so many impressions life along to me.

I can say - exactly this didgie shows me how it want to be played - and I love to follow him. Love the moments, where I am realizing, that it was the best decision deeply looking out to find my own way with it. And essentially I know and have to add: I can go so far away with the didgie - but I would stick at my place if I dont do my own way!

Image

If you are interested in that where I come from musicaly side ... you're welcome to take a look here:
Subtitles will be added as soon as possible ...

What I am doing belongs to the Didge'NCulture * project:

I am busy in organisation, realization, graphics, webdevelopment and video postproduction.

The association ...

It's about beeing a concrete and approachable point at the worldmap where the evolution of creativity and unique spirit of every individual has place to grow and to get connected like it's going through. Purpose of the association is the promotion, maintenance and demonstration of art and culture around the didgeridoo and beat boxing and the associated awareness of life. Purpose of the association is also the promotion of international understanding, art and culture with the focuses on indigenous cultures of Aboriginal people and their musical instruments, especially the idgeridoo.

Want also leave an word of honor to the aboriginal people - without you - I would not have these amazing impressions! Thank you so much!
Didgeridoo is a kind of healing for me ... but thats very private .. so I won't explain it to extensive.

You're welcome :D

Jo

Lovely and exactly! Thanks for sharing your story too Jo, its a nice story, I like it. At the moment I have an idea of mixing gangsta rap music with traditional yidaki... mainly because it hasn't been done before hahaha    I like the combination of dance music and trad yidaki too, it could be another project in the pipeline, I love the way trad yidaki is able to lead musically, that it can be prominent rhythmically and blend well with drum beats and bass loops etc.

I've been starting to think good thoughts, it makes a difference!

Thanks for that Anthony, I enjoyed that, good rhythmic feel and nice playing! My idea is to have a great technician like Laga do the yirdaki part and have it feature as a driving force of the track, I think when Yolngu play there's that natural syncopation feel which works well with electronic beats and hip-hop/rap genres. Vocal calls work well too which a lot of the Yolngu guys do when playing with other instruments in a band setting, but it is the strength of the rhythms n syncopations that I want to focus on, with lots of speed too! Its only an idea at the moment n there's a guy who is willing to do the electronics parts.

I was going to "like" this video Jo then I realised we're not on Facebook hahaha :D :D

Love the video, thank you Jo!

I'm beginning to think that everyone is special, we are all of the one source, one origin, one destiny...

Listening to Omid's track again, his playing is pretty good actually, strong playing, I think we started off on the wrong footing, its the way the mind works and the biases it has... if your mind is expecting to hear great playing because the player says he can play trad, and you don't quite hear it, then the mind becomes disappointed. However if the mind expects to hear lousy playing but hears something better, it gets excited! With Omid my mind has always expected more from him, trying to listen impartially now I'd say he is getting close, a little bit of tweaking of tonguings and embouchure and he'll be damn close!

There's a guy on my Facebook wall who does gangster beats, he's originally from Katherine/Numbulwar region, Graham Wilfred is his name, I think he has potential and he's agreed to do a collaboration so let's see what happens... The gangster version of Gurrumul hopefully!!!

Cheers,

Guan

Don't worry about it Guan - I agree with you, that we started with the wrong foot - but lol ... I also make it easy to you to take it like that!
I am really not focused to dissapoint anyone than myself ...

Btw .. thank you to enjoy the Video ... :) .. DidgeNinja rocks my as and my soul \o/ .. love to share!

Omid's track? I have to ask google as well as Graham Wilfred ...

Can't wait to offer my next home- or street recording - but as I already said - audioproduction is not my best^^ ... so I have to deal with the devil till it matches to my image how it has to sound :)
Uploading next days my first on top recording from 2007 - it's first on top rec. of an electronic beat. It was about half an hour after I got the Didgie from Eddy (Key F I wrote about)

Stay tuned! ...

Jo
