Sounds pretty good to me Cyril, well done! Rhythmically there is a strong resemblance, it sounds like one of the tracks from "Wandjuk Marika in Port Moresby". Technically there could be improvements, but then again, we're comparing with the great Wandjuk who was one of the Masters of his time. I haven't tried this style but you've given me inspiration :D Anyone else want to try?

Guan

I have to say it's some time since I've listened to Wandjuks' playing - but I did listen to it a LOT when I first bought his record (I was about 17 - 31 yrs ago....), and what you are playing Cyril is instantly recognizable to me - it is certainly in his "style" - that older style of playing. Very well done.

Nice sound Cyril,
It is a very interesting and challenging exercise that you have proposed.
To get started I had a bit of a listen to the shorter clip and think I have understood how to reproduce it,
Here is my attempt,
[stream]http://www.fluiditj.com/wandjuk-imitate.mp3[/stream]

I am doing something like this

hirrl da hith a dha hul dha hul dhahirrl lo

breathing just on the initial hirrl and on the lo at the very end
The sound is not exactly the same but he must be doing something more or less like this.

Best, Martin

Nice approximation Martin. I opened up both samples and played them at the same time and you've definitely got the feel of the original.

thanks Kyle,
It is pretty tricky to get that Wandjuk sound, as one would expect.
It has a certain texture that my western mouth cannot quite make..

cheers, M

I come on this post because I want to understand how Wandjuk play this game. I hear a sort of slide on the attack . who can help me?

I think it's a change in the air pressure - altering the flow rate which changes the pitch slightly.

I think the position of the tongue is really between the teeth and lips to give the slide and it must also have a snake tongue hard and fast like Wandjuk

Hi there,
Sorry about the delay. Few months have passed since my last connection here. What slide effect are you talking about? I don't understand what you mean.
Cheers
