Hi,
I'm looking for what I think of as an "old school" yidaki, kinda long, about 150cm, mouthpiece about 30mm, bell about 50-65mm....natural bore.....probably about a C or C#.....but could be higher .....no fancy decoration, probably just some simple ochre.......
If you have something like this gathering dust in the corner and you might want to find it a new home let me know.
thanks,
robert

Guan,
Actually it doesn't have to be old....I don't even know for sure if "old school" is the right word....but I keep having an image in the back of my mind of the stick I described, so I thought I'd start looking for it. I've looked at a lot in the last few weeks, some close but not quite.
I'm pretty sure I'll know when it's the right one when I see/hear it, so any photos would help. My email is califdidj at yahoo dot com.
thanks,
robert

Hi Robert,
Here are some pics.
The first pic is of a Milingimbi yi daki, 1960s-70s vintage. It isn't a powerhouse stick like those you might find in the Gove region today. But it does have plenty of character and plays in a manner that I find impossible in new instruments... well, most of them anyway.
The other pic is of two yi daki with Ngaymil miny'tjin. The top yi daki could be by Mowarra Ga nambarr, assisted by Mowarra, or painted by a family member. The bottom Ngaymil stick is by Larrtjannga Ganambarr, whom Larry Winiwini is named after (Winiwini is not a real name but a nickname used for Larry since Larrtjannga #1 passed away).
You can hear a sound clip of the Milingimbi stick in the following post:

Thanks for the pics and the information Guan, my eye is especially drawn to the 60s-70s Milingimbi instrument. This stick is the sort I am thinking about....I really appreciate the effort you have put into presenting these older instruments to everyone, and especially the private communications trying to help me find the stick I am seeking.
I'm still considering all my options, and of course I look forward to seeing more
thanks,
robert
