Here's an old museum-quality mago from the stony escarpment area south-west of Maningrida community. This is a very old instrument that displays a smooth aged patina. The whole of the mago has a glossy sheen built up from constant handling.

Although this mago plays well, it really is more of an ethnographic piece that should be treasured and looked after rather than played frequently. There are some minor shrinkage cracks near the bell end which appear to be superficial and not leaking air. This mago has been recorded with Darryl Digarrnga demonstrating gunborrk style for those who are interested in the sound characteristics of this instrument.
