I'll let the video do the talking on this one. Vernon might be known to those who have visited Djalu. The little boy is all grown up now, and even has a girl!

Vernon has gone over to Groote to be with his woman and is now a proud new dad!

Vernon is getting pretty good, he can play just like his dad Djalu and his brother Larry now, I remember a time when I was of a similar standard to Vernon (when he was a toddler!) but now he's streets ahead.

This video is interesting because it provides clues as to how trad style if played straight from the mouth of an expert, and in language too.

Awesome !
When retroflexing his tongue we can hear clear harmonics similar to Tuvan Khoomei throat-singing... which also uses retroflex.
I always suspected these techniques to be similar but now I've got a proof thanks to Vernon !
Are Yolngus aware of these similarities ?

Fantastic video Guan. Thanks to Vernon for sharing some of his knowledge and playing skills with us.
How his playing has advanced. I already loved what I heard from young Vernon many years ago
when he was playing rhythms while Djalu teached us at Gunyangara.

In the video I really love the clearness with which you can hear the tongue sounds, his discussion about the
tongue in the front of the mouth and especially the last rhythm that he plays... no words for that one. Would love to hear it
again from the bell of the instrument:))

cheers, Martin

I agree with Martin - not only has he grown up, but his playing has too. That last rhythm sounds like a fast version of Barra - West Wind.
