There are interior and exterior grades of PVA glue. Interior grades may not be suitable for using on a mandapul. I tried one brand of interior-grade PVA glue, it dried with a soft, tacky finish.

Djalu uses Aquadhere glue, but this brand is not available in the U.S.A.

In the U.S.A. one of the best exterior (waterproof) PVA glues is Titebond III.

I confirmed that, when diluted 50:50 with water, Titebond dries into a hard, waterproof, semigloss finish.

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the feedback by the way, I didn't respond to your emails yet.

The Gurruwiwis use the interior grade of Aquadhere rather than exterior, exterior works too of course but isn't as good and I don't know why but standard glue that Djalu and his family use is the interior Aquadhere PVA Glue if anyone else is wondering.

What you have picked up in the US looks fine too Harry, with the dried glue sample that you have produced as a test, try re-wetting it and observe how it behaves over time. Perhaps even dunking a dried sample into a glass of water and leave it in there for 2 hours and see how it reacts. If it stays translucent and colourless, that's good, if it turns a white milky colour, that can be ok as well as long as the dried glue does not soften and turn into a liquid again.

Anyway, feel free to upload pics of the dried glue sample, the re-wetted glue sample, or anything else, anything you're unsure of just ask us, something visual to see always helps with repair and maintenance tips too :D :D :D :D

Cheers mate,

Guan
