Hi Ambros

Thanks, Just when I think I have it, I record it and it sounds rubbish. I am struggling with the basic vamp as well!!Seems so easy but this is really hard. As far as I can make out it seems like he is exhaling at the same time as he is saying "Dhirrl" "dhirrl" which is how I think he gets such a forceful "Dhirrl", then using his tongue and mouth movements to do his syncopations. He does use "Dhirrl Lo" (with a bit of PV) in the rhythm but only to break up the vamp using a "Dup" before the "Dhirrl lo" and then usually another one a few beats on. I am not sure he is using "Dhirrl lo" at all in the main vamp ???

Cheers

Some more Quincey Matjaki practice, still trying to nail the first 15 seconds!!! In the clip the first sound you will hear is the first 15 secs or so played by Quincey (sorry for the bad sound, recorded it off youtube but it gives you an idea of what I am trying to copy) the rest is me ( 3 attempts)on my Terrence Gaypalani F/G# yidaki

Hi all,

step by step I'm catching a glimpse of this Nunhdhirribala style Elijah is playing on the clip " Elijah Gunydjurruwuy Wunungmurra playing a Rodney Dhalpalawuy ceremonial yirdaki" http://www.youtube.com/ididjaustralia#p/u/13/MyxapO9OJ7E

Here's my attempt:

Sounds pretty good to me! Do you want to try Groote Eylandt style Ambros, that's quite a challenging style. Looking forward to hearing you.

Cheers,

Guan

Hi Ambros,

That's a good video to start with. There's also David Turner's CD which is pretty good, whole CD of Groote Eylandt music.

Cheers,

Guan
