Just watched this 50 minute doc on the efforts of an outstation community/family to both maintain their traditional knowledge of bush foods and medicine, and at the same time create a source of income via sustainably harvesting and selling these plants and animals. The documentary is very well made, and contains some very heartfelt and impassioned monologues from Yolngu people about the Homelands movement, and the many benefits of moving to an outstation and "getting back to the bush."

Like many fine things in life, this film is short and sweet.

Hey Simon,

This was done out at Maningrida in north-central Arnhem Land 4 years ago. Inspiration couple indeed!

Very inspirational couple indeed! Loved the shots of them working together, harvesting Morinda fruit and witchetty grubs. I also loved the bit with the one woman and her older mum harvesting and preparing bush medicines.

I thought one of the most compelling aspects of the film was what the people had to say about life at Maningrida vs. life at an outstation. It was really interesting to me when the main woman in the film said that sometimes when kids at Maningrida get sick, they will take them out to the bush and feed them bushtucker to basically restore balance to their dietary system, and get them healthy.

Whitefella food just aint that good for folks! Even other whitefellas! Haha.

The last few shots of the film, set at this family's outstation home, I thought were extremly powerful, and full of positivity and hope.

Glad you enjoyed this film too Guan!

-Simon
