As some of you guys might have seen on my Facebook wall, I'd like to get at least one element in Australia recognised, so far nothing for Australia.

Take a look here:

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... =maps#tabs

And here:

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... n&pg=00054

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... n&pg=00055

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... n&pg=00056

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... n&pg=00057

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... n&pg=00053

I think the didgeridoo tradition in the Top End is worthy of inclusion along with its associated language, rituals, cosmologies, craftsmanship, etc.

Perhaps rather than just an element, this could be regarded as a Masterpiece in UNESCO's terminology.

What do you guys think and more importantly who wants to be a part of a team to get this recognised and protected by UNESCO?

Guan

I don't know how I could help but yes, I'd love to help.

Holy sh*t ! Apart from French gastronomy, I don't know a single recognized element from my own country !
I'd also suggest French comic-strips ! And our pre-historical rock-art ornamented caves.

France has heaps of listings, incredible:

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00441

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00438

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00437

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... &USL=00315

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00250

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00249

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00251

http://www.unesco.org/culture/ich/index ... 1&RL=00153

Rock art would fall under this form of safeguarding as it isn't intangible cultural heritage, French comics could be if there is something distinct and special about them that marks them as cultural heritage.

:D :D :D :D

The other thing too, we don't need to use English all the time on here, it'll be nice to see other languages as well especially one's native tongue. Seeing the UNESCO website again reminds me that there is a lot of diversity in this world, and English does not need to be the dominant language :D :D :D

We'll have to spend some time going through the website, look at existing elements that are listed, and the accompanying documents that were submitted to UNESCO. I have a couple of templates to work with and some examples of listed Intangible Cultural Heritage elements in other countries.
