Hello Guys

Does anyone have any idea as to where I can get my hands on Yidaki/Mago blanks of either woolybutt, stringy bark or bloodwood ie the raw logs from arnhem land so I can fashion a stick myself and if so how much they would be.

I know Matt Bartlett in the UK used to sell them but as he is no longer a trader im at a loss as to where to find such a thing?

Cheers

Stockie

Depends on what you mean by Arnhem Land. You could get loads of blanks cut by whitefellas around the Katherine region. I wouldn't and don't support such a thing though, it just leads to over-harvesting and undermines Indigenous economic potentials. I don't know any countrymen who sell raw logs in Arnhem Land, but you could cut them yourself if you're here.

You can always try, again, if you were here you'd be able to ask... for example, you could get Djalu to cut you a raw log and buy it from him, it has been done before.

Hi Stockie, I don't see the point because if you rework yidaki-Mago blanks then you will obtain some didgeridoos and couldn't call them yidaki-mago anymore since crafting & painting will not be traditionnal (even if you manage to make good ones) but I can understand your need to craft by yourself... :|

On one of Djalu's Masterclasses you could, or if one gets permission when on Aboriginal land.
