Tis funny, watch and listen

These videos are in circulation among mobile phones in eastern Arnhem Land. Guys, I'm assuming guys, are spending a bit of time rehearsing lines and getting the timing right, I believe all this is done on mobile phones. Don't ask me how, I use my mobile just to make calls...

If you've studied Yolngu Matha, you might laugh louder and longer, but I reckon anyone will find something funny about these 2 vids. Despite the comedy, there is still a lot of cultural content, in fact, I would say that this new form of entertainment is but an extension of other traditional cultural activities.

By the way, the files should open with QuickTime Player, at least on Macs :-)

Another thing, just to distract me further from writing about "Meet the Stars"... there's a lot of good music of all forms being produced in 'backyards' in Arnhem Land including gospel music and also rap and hip hop. These are also doing the rounds on mobile phones. I've been asked to manage a group, yikes!, and feel I'm totally out of my depths. It would be cool though if some of these songs could be recorded in a studio environment with proper equipment and CDs produced. Any show of hands if you've got the experience or skills?

Hi Paul,

You'll have to try different things, don't know what but try, that's all I can suggest. Or Bluetooth it to your mobile phone if you have one, as .3gp is a video format for mobile phones mainly I believe.

I works for me on Quicktime Players for Mac.

ok so I can't translate, but the sophistication of this timeless comic device is not lost! I guess it must have universal appeal...
