Not wanting to be intrusive during funerals, I am usually reluctant to take out my camera during bapurru but after several requests from Yolngu families to take pics and videos, I ended up with several dozen digital photographs and a few hours of video recording some of which were taken by Yolngu themselves.

Here are a small number of pics of Yomsie's funeral, a dear friend and an utter gentleman who will be remembered for his incredible yidaki talent having toured with Yothu Yindi internationally for many years. Yomsie was also a kind and sensitive soul, his passing an untimely and monumental loss to those who knew him and loved him.

File comment: Gravesite of Monyu, the great Galpu leader and Djalu's father... this is the largest gravesite at Yirrkala that I know of. Families cleaned the area of weeds the day after the burial of Yomsie, whose site lies beside that of Monyu.
